Community Involvement

MEI is dedicated to its community by providing support for schools and civic organizations. MEI has donated money, renovation work, and new technologies to the schools of the North East Kingdom. It’s important to MEI that the children of the area are able to reap the benefits of active after school programs.

MEI has been involved with supporting more than just academia and has given time and money towards many organizations ranging from the Jay Fire Department, to the American Legion, the North Country Animal League, and the Northeast Handicap Services, as well as the annual sponsorship of Jay Peak’s Mardi Gras weekend.

The Ski Pass Program allows for local children to receive discounted season passes to Jay Peak. MEI coordinates and administers the passes and has offered ski pass scholarships since 2005. IROC fitness memberships have also be given to the local children.

Below are some of our recent contributions to the comminuty of Northern Vermont.

St. Johnsbury Academy

Below is an excerpt from the St. Johnsbury Academy new article “Donation to St. Johnsbury Academy Big Boost for Young Competitive Swimmers”. To see the whole article click here.

Thanks to an $80,000 donation from a northeastern Vermont business, the St. Johnsbury Academy Field House’s Farmer Natatorium now features several improvements focusing on competitive swimming.

Donated by Michael and Tanya Pappalardo, owners of Mike’s Electric Inc. (MEI)., based in Jay, the additions include brighter lighting over the pool, new starting blocks, an electronic timing system for swim meets, and bleachers for spectators…

The donation has “transformed the pool into a bona fide venue for swimming competitions, and the energy and excitement around the swim club is palpable” Academy Headmaster Tom Lovett said. “This donation is one more example of how our parents and local businesses support our programs and our students, leaving this school better than they found it. The Pappalardo's have improved the facility so that all who use the pool have a much more enjoyable experience. The new lights, in particular, make a world of difference. The whole atmosphere is brightened.”

Tammi Cady, the Academy’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations, added, “Working with Mike and Tanya over the past few months has been wonderful. Their family has been very generous to the Academy and to the St. Johnsbury Swim Club. It is wonderful to have supporters like them and we appreciate all they have done to improve the facility and help improve the visibility of competitive swimming in our local area.”...

Jay Focus Group

Mike Pappalardo, owner of MEI, has been extremely involved with the community of Jay, Vermont. In the past MEI has contributed to the Jay Focus Group, which is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for many local entities. Some of these include the Jay Fire Department, the food shelf (which serves five local towns), the Jay School’s optional and after school programs, as well as the Jay Athletic Association. MEI has donated money to events such as Monte Carlo Night, for the Fire Department, and the Jay Summer Festival. Mike’s Electric is generous and willing to help when they can. Not only financially, but also physically with Mike Pappalardo played the town’s Santa Claus for several years, and he and his son, Casey, have helped to develop the Jay Land Trust Recreational Park by clearing out and maintaining the trails. Mike, and his wife Tanya, have developed a trait of volunteerism in their whole family as well as a company.
